ACCA to impose sanction on erring member

Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), has said Thursday in Lagos that it will start to wield the big stick on any member found to be culpable of any financial misappropriation and manupulations.

This was disclosed by ACCA’s Global Chief Executive, Mrs. Helen Brand during a media chat with journalists to announce the Association’s 10th year existence in the country.
According to her, ACCA is set to slam heavy fine on any erring member who behaves unethically because such attitude is not acceptable to us. Prevention is better than cure and every hand must be on deck to ensure that it lives above board.
“We have zero tolerance for unethical behaviour. We will take action and we have disciplinarian hearing systems that are made public ,which does not exclude anyone. We impose severe sanctions and such member may find it difficult to work in any organisation”, she said.
Brand also disclosed that the role of ACCA is critical to the sustainable growth in Nigeria, and that the role of a professionally skilled accountant is key to the economy because he will be adding value to the Gross Domestic Progression (GDP), of the economy through their different organisations.
On what ACCA is doing differently to celebrate its 10th anniversary in Nigeria, the Global Chief Executive disclosed that for the first time ACCA examinations are now online , there is also a Computer Based Examination (CBE ),there is the introduction of Master’s qualification as well as four examination sittings as against two.
Also speaking, Nigeria’s Country Director, Mrs. Toyin Ademola added that ACCA now has 29 learning partners and many approved centres, which is in the range of long term partnership.
She stressed that the future of finance profession depends on adequate training and specialised knowledge of specific verticals.
