Falconets land in Papua New Guinea

NIGERIA’S U-20 Wom­en’s team (Falconets ) as expected have booked their passage to the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Papua New Guinea.

Falconets, denied hard talking South Africa a spot in the 2016 tourna­ment following their 1-0 piping of Basetsana in the final qualifier at the Makhulong Stadium Sun­day afternoon.

Chinwendu Ihezuo net­ted the winning goal for Nigeria, who won on 3-1 having entered into the match with a 2-1 victory recorded in Abuja a fort­night ago.

Falconets become the first African team to qualify for the 2016 FIFA tournament billed for Papua New Guinea making them the only team from the continent to have featured in every edition of the champion­ship since its inception in 2002 .

Nigeria’s qualification for the biennial cham­pionship has swelled the number of qualified countries to Nine. Japan, North Korea, South Ko­rea, Germany, France, Spain, Sweden and New Zealand have all picked tickets.

A total of 16 teams qualify for the final tour­nament. In addition to Papua New Guinea who qualified automatically as hosts, the other 15 teams qualify from six separate continental competitions

The 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will be the 8th edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, the biennial international women’s youth football champion­ship contested by the un­der-20 national teams of the member associations of FIFA.
