Borno Central bye-election: army ban movement

The military has announced restriction of movement in Maiduguri for Saturday’s bye election into the Borno Central. Senatorial election.
A press statement signed by the Media Coordinator, Operation Lafiya Dole and spokesman of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army Maiduguri, Col Tukur Gusau said the restriction would only affect the two local government areas at the state capital namely Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and Jere Local Government.
“The Theater Command OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE wish to inform the residents of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere Local government areas that a restriction order will be effective during the bye election scheduled on Saturday 31 October, 2015 in Borno Central senatorial zone of Borno state,” the statement reads.
The restriction, according to the spokesman, would involve the use of vehicles, tricycles, bicycles and animals. “The restriction will be effective from 6.00am to 5.00pm,” it added.
It said no vehicles would be allowed into and out of the two local governments in the capital throughout the bye election. “Citizens are call upon to come out freely to exercise their constitutional rights. Appropriate security measures were put in place to guarantee peaceful election exercise throughout the senatorial zone,” it stated.
